21st Street Coffee in downtown Pittsburgh is not on 21st street, and is surprisingly hard to find but definitely worth a visit. The name comes from it's very first location on 21st Street in the strip, but then they moved to Smallman and opened up their second location downtown! They decided to keep the name which is very hipster, very yinzer.

There is not much to this shop which is right in the heart of Pittsburgh near Market Square, but what it lacks in space and glamour, it makes up for in the quality of coffee. I paid almost 6 dollars for a small latte and I would do it over and over again because its probably the best latte I've ever had. Let me break down for you why:

The coffee: 21st Street Coffee uses exclusively Intelligentsia coffee which you can't find at a lot of coffee shops around the burgh. Actually, it's only offered in one other coffee shop in our area! This is really really cool guys. If you check out Intelligentsia's site, you can see why 21st Street loves it so much, and why it's worthy of a try!

The almond milk: THE VERY VERY BEST PART. Okay so here's what makes this place so darn good. They have home made alternative milk options! I always ask when I visit coffee shops what their milk options are because I am forever on the look out for this. Although it is common to have an almond or soy milk option at most places, usually they aren't homemade. The homemade option 21st had when I went was an almond+macadamia+date milk. I got this in my plain latte and it was absolutely amazing.

Bethany, the barista working at the time, told me that they hand-make the milk in house and have different combos all the time. She let me try a sample while she was making my latte and it was so delicious with just the right amount of natural sweetness from the nuts. The milk steamed so perfectly to make a silky froth and made my latte TO DIE FOR. This is definitely the reason I paid so much for a small latte but like I said, it is worth it if you're a sucker for homemade almond and nut milk like I am. Unfortunately, they aren't selling their milk concoctions by the bottle yet but here's hoping for the future!

Check out 21st Street Coffee and Tea in the strip or downtown and let me know if you love it as much as I do!
