Smallman Galley

Smallman Galley is my new favorite spot in PGH and it is quite the “unique dining experience” it's all cracked up to be. Not only is it in one of the best locations in the fast developing foodie heaven of the Strip, but it is unlike any restaurant in the burgh. Smallman Galley is a restaurant “incubator” equipped to house four full running restaurants, a full service bar with PA brews and classy cocktails, an espresso bar, and seating for over 200 people. The four restaurants rotate every 18 months to bring in new, exciting, and innovative food to the table. Obviously I couldn’t wait to try it.
The ambiance: Fantastic
The people: Friendly and knowledgeable
The cocktails: Excellent
And the food? To die for.

It was a hard choice but the restaurant I decided to order from was Josephine’s Toast. I was in the mood for lighter fare and the menu was just what I was looking for. They have all different kinds of small plates (including avocado toast), sandwiches, and larger plates. I decided to try the sundried tomato sandwich that came with a “side” house salad. To my surprise, the side salad was a very large portion and so delicious I would order it alone next time I stop it.

I wanted to visit Smallman during happy hour because it is rumored to have one of the best in the city. I concur!!!! Happy hour has lost its way here in the steel city with most places offering only a dollar or two off drafts. Smallman Galley has restored my faith in foodie humanity offering half off ALL drinks during their generous happy hour of 5-7. Their draft list is tried and true offering only PA beers, and they have quite the eclectic cocktail menu.

I am a sucker for all things spicy so I went with a smoky jalapeño drink. After that I moved on to the draft list and enjoyed a couple PA brews.
Final words: go here! Summer is amongst us here in the burgh which is the perfect excuse to walk on down Penn Ave for some great food and happy hour deals!
